Welcome to Memorial Day, 2023. I’m not sure what the proper greeting is for Memorial Day. Certainly it isn’t “Happy Memorial Day” simply because of the Solomon occasion it represents. We are honoring the thousands of fallen hero’s that gave their life in the service of their country while defending our nation. So I suppose the best greeting for the day is “Have a blessed Day.”

We had a great weekend. I told you that Jim and Julie and the pups were coming over on Friday and they did. Then around noon on Saturday, Lisa, Gary, Matt and Hannah got here. It was a wonderful weekend of visiting. We had planned to go to the Log Inn on Saturday night for dinner but found out that it was going to be closed. So, we changed the plans and on Saturday morning I sent Jim to Dewigs Butcher Shop and Meat Market to pick up two slabs of ribs and a pork butt right off of the cooker. Also had him pick up some potato salad. So those two things and some chips was our dinner and it was delicious. We had plenty of food for sure.

Yesterday morning we all got up had our coffee etc. and then went to church. It was Pentecost Sunday and we also recognized Memorial Day. It was absolutely wonderful to have the family all sitting there worshipping together minus Jim. Jim wants nothing to do with the church for his own personal reasons so we don’t push it on him. He’s respectful of our beliefs but just doesn’t have anyone to do with our practices. He was not raised in the church and none of his family ever attended. I don’t know why. But —- that’s between him and God.

After church we came home, and fixed lunch and then Lisa and her family left around 2:00 pm and head back towards North Carolina. Then around 3:00 Julie and family went back home to New Albany and Kate & I took a nap. !

Today we are going to do the laundry and I don’t know what else. I have signed up to play TAPS at 3:00 pm out front on my lawn as part of the TAPS Across America program. BUt, beyond that, maybe we will take a day off. Ms. Kate did not have to go for a radiation treatment today so she really feels like she is getting a holiday.

That’s it for this Memorial Day. Have a blessed day. Take a moment to remember those who gave their life to give you the freedom you enjoy today. Peace.

Yes, it is Friday and I’m only dashing through the iPad for a short moment. Got too much to do again today. Of course we’ve been doing our daily visits to the Oncology clinic for Ms. Kate and today was no different. However with Monday being Memorial Day, she will get a three day respite. And —- she’s well ready for a break, even if it is just a small one. She’s getting more tender and also more tied as the treatments continue. I just give thanks to God that she doesn’t have to also go through Chemotherapy.

We’ve been busy getting ready for Memorial Day weekend. Youngest daughter Lisa and her hubby, son and daughter-in-law will get here tomorrow. They will only spend one night. Julie, Jim and the pups will get here sometime today. Jim is going to help me trim the azealias back. But, I’ve been busy morning and weed eating. And have the front looking all spiffy. I have the back mowed but want to run the weed eater back there. It might seem silly to go to all of this work for the visit but it is the first time my new “granddaughter-in-law” has ever been to our house and I want to make a good impression.

Yesterday I did the grocery shopping after we got back from Kate’s appointment. I do 99% of the grocery shopping these days and have for quite some time. I usually just go to my local Neighborhood Walmart. They generally have everything I want and I don’t have to go to a big Walmart. y now, I know the store pretty well and if I can’t find something, I have no hesitation asking one of the many people that they have  filling “on-line” orders. I figure they know the store and where everything is stocked.

That’s my dash-through for today. I probably won’t talk to you until next Tuesday. Have a blessed Memorial Day and a safe one. Peace.

Tuesday, May 23, 2023

Hello Tuesday, How did you sneak in here so quickly. I know, as usual Monday kept me busy and distracted so you could sneak on in. —- Well, it worked, didn’t it.

Yep, Monday was a bust day. Of course we began with our morning trip to the oncologist office for Ms. Kate. Then out to breakfast and then home. My planned job for yesterday was to get the peony and iris bushes and plants “dead-headed”, i.e cut all of the old blooms off of them. I don’t know how many peonies we have but I’d guess 50 plus. They are really beautiful when they bloom but when they are done, I have to cut all of those blooms off or they really look ugly and they droop down. I filled over half of my garbage can with blooms from the two varieties of plants. The yard now is a mass of green bushes  and iris. Come fall I’ll have to cut the plants all back too.

Speaking of cutting back; Jim is coming over on Friday and is going to help me trim the azealia bushes back along the front of the house. We can’t see out the from windows because they haven’t been trimmed in a couple of years. This year they hardly bloomed at all and I don’t know why but it is time to trim them back to window-ledge height. Yesterday I also took all of the buckets off of my tomato plants. They are strong enough to stand on their own. I may put a stake beside some of them to make sure they grown straight. I have two plants without a cage. I should probably go to Lowes and get a couple of cages for them.

I got my little JD back from the John Deere dealer. Hopefully they have it fixed this time. Any way, I mowed my back yard yesterday. I still have the trimming to do and I have the front yard and trimming to o too.

All of this outside stuff has kept me off of my computer so I’m running a couple of days behind on working on my June 4th service. Maybe I’ll be able to get that this evening. Tomorrow we will have Kate’s radiation, than an appointment with her radiologist. Then I have to go to the churches to run the weeks bulletins. In the meantime, we are trying to get the house ready and menus planned for the weekend when the kids all come in.

So —- if you don’t hear from me for the rest of the week —- just know I’m busy being busy!!  Have a blessed day. Peace.

Saturday, May 20, 2023

Saturday morning —- the one morning a week that we don’t have to set an alarm and be up for an event of any kind and ——- we’re both up before 0700. What is up with that??? I don’t know, but I know that I’m up because the John Deere guys did not deliver my little JD yesterday like they were supposed to and I figured that they would be calling me first thing this morning to tell me they were on the way. They have been known to call as they were parking out front. I even laid the phone next to my bed last night in anticipation of their call, and of course —- we haven’t heard a word from them. It figures.

So why is Ms. Kate up?  I don’t know. I asked her if she was up to celebrate being able to sleep in but I didn’t get much of a response. LOL

We got a little over a third of an inch of rain last night. Thank you Lord for sparing the trouble of watering the garden again today. Our weather guy said again last night that we are looking forward  a nice sunny and dry week through Memorial Day next weekend. That would be ideal. It would kick the summer off perfectly. Maybe the local pools can open on time and folks can get out and enjoy the holiday. We are having company coming in. I think I may have told you that Lisa, Gary, Matt & Hannah are coming up from North Carolina and Jim and Julie are coming over from New Albany with the pups. Lisa and her gang ill get here a week from today and they will leave and head back to NC on Sunday afternoon. It will be a super short visit but they do have a business to run and have to be back to be open on Tuesday morning after the Memorial Day Monday holiday. And Lisa needs to be back at work too. But,  we will just enjoy every minute of their time while they are here. I don’t know if Jim and Julie are staying over through Sunday or not. It always go from loving chaos to silence in a hurry. I assume that Ms.Kate will have her radiation treatment on the holiday too.

So, that’s it for this Saturday morning. I think I will make a pan of Pillsbury Orange rolls or maybe fix a bagel with cream cheese. We aren’t going out for breakfast today.

Have a blessed weekend. Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.  Peace.

Friday, May 19, 2023

Good morning once again. Actually it is almost noon. We had to change up the schedule today because Kate’s radiation appointment was delayed by an hour and a half. But it all went well and now she gets two days off and she needs it. For what ever reason these treatments are wearing her out. Maybe it is a reaction to the radiation, we don’t know.

So today we decided to skip breakfast and come on home today. But thankfully there is a Dairy Queen enroute so we stopped and picked up two boxes of ice cream sandwiches and two boxes of Dilly Bars. Good time quick treats/snacks for awhile.

Yesterday I had a fellow paint the new fence portion and gate. They were painting the house next door and I had talked to them two days ago about painting this new fence and gate that I had install earlier this year. They said they could get to it while they are doing my neighbors place and it only cost me $125.00. It looks great and was well worth the money.

I also had to call my John Deere dealer to come back and pick up my backyard JD. I had just gotten it back last week, ran it once, and it quit working again. They came right out and picked it up. They just now called me and said they were ready to return it this afternoon. The original problem was bad and old gas in it that had clogged the lines. Today they said they had obviously not gotten all of the gunk out of the lines because they took the tank off and more stuff came out. But, they said they put it back together and ran it for thirty minutes and it was all good to go. They are returning it this afternoon. Let’s hope it is truly ready to go.

It’s time to fix some lunch and then get some work done. Have a blessed day and a blessed weekend. Don’t neglect honoring the Sabbath. Peace.

Thursday, May 18, 2023

I’m back in my parking spot at the clinic this morning. We got here. Few minutes early today which is no big deal. It’s amazing how a little traffic can affect your travel time though. Yesterday it seemed like the world was on the road and determined to drive five miles per hour. . Today there was hardly anyone on the road. But I’m sitting here watching all of the 0900 appointments arrive. I think it is sad when I see these people coming here by themselves. I know that maybe many of them are probably perfectly fine with coming here by themselves for their treatments. And I know that like Kate, many of the treatments don’t take very long. But for the most part, the people that come here have cancer in some form or another, and to think that you have to go through that by oneself is just sad, I think. Many of the people I see come in here are coming as couples and I like that.

Yesterday we came for her treatment and then went to Nellies for breakfast, and then up to the churches to run off the bulletins etc. Then we went home and had the rest of our day stuff to do. I think this morning, we may just stop at McDonalds for a breakfast burrito or an egg McMuffin and head home. We have one more restaurant that I like to hit for breakfast before we start the circle over again. It’s called the Cross-Eyed Cricket. It’s actually on the far side of Evansville but what the heck.

Last night Kate said that she was hungry for a Calzone; you know, those things that ok like a pizza folded in half. Well I started going through the list of local pizza places that we frequent and none of them had Calzones. So, I’m expanding my search.

Well, I see my lady coming out of the facility ready to head home. Have a blessed day. Peace.

Tuesday, May 16, 2023

The morning run to the oncology clinic is done and we’re back home already. Today, instead of going out for breakfast after the treatment, we went to Parlor Doughnuts and picked up a half dozen and brought them home. It has been a rainy day that sometimes comes hard and heavy and other times is a sprinkle; but I didn’t want us to have to stop and get out in the rain to go in to a restaurant. At the clinic, I can pull up under the portico and drop her off so she doesn’t get wet. We’ve been rotating our restaurant places for breakfast after her appointment. So far, we’ve done Friendship Diner twice, Sunrise Cafe, and now Parlor. I think tomorrow we will run on up to Nellies in Newburgh because we will be leaving the clinic a bit later. She has a doctor’s visit after the radiation.

I’m sitting at my kitchen table looking through the windows and I can see that a squirrel has  flat out honked off the Mockingbirds. They have a nest in the azealia bushes in front of the windows and the squirrel has made the mistake of getting close. As we were coming home the Mockingbird was chasing the squirrel across the years. Now, sitting here. I have seen that happen a couple of more times. I don’t like to go out there right now because it dive-bombs me. I remember as a kid, seeing the mockingbirds drive the cats crazy out there in the yard. It was a hoot to watch.

I’m also watching a couple of wrens fly in and out of the second azealia bush a lot. They must have a nest in there too. The other day I open up my little garden tool shed and had three wrens come flying out of there at me. Looks like there are a lot of critters around here that are “twitterpated”.

Since it is supposed to rain today, I won’t be outside working for sure. I guess it will be a computer and writing day. After while I’ll go sit in my sunporch recliner, listen to it rain, and do what comes naturally. I hope your day can be a relaxing as that. Peace.

Monday, May 15, 2023

Good morning from my new “morning spot”. I’m sitting here in the parking lot of the Chancellor Oncology center. Ms. Kate’s appointment starts at 0900 and she just went in. It takes her a few minutes to get into her treatment gown and stuff. When she is ready, they will have her get on the table and put her in the position that they need her in, then the actual radiation treatment doesn’t take that long. So, we’ll be out of here in about 30 minutes.

The morning is beautiful. It is sunny and 64 degrees with just a nice hint of a five mph breeze. We had some rain again last night which is good because I don’t have to water my plants again today. We have been under weather/rain threats all weekend but had very little at out house. The garden was starting to dry out, so a bit of rain is good. I think I saw that we are expecting more today and maybe even tomorrow and Wednesday.

Hmmm, I wasn’t too smart, I should have brought my cup of coffee with me. Oh well, we’ll go to breakfast from here. I’ve had one cup today and I guess I can hold on to life without a second cup for another thirty minutes or so. LOL

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. Julies and Jim and the pupperonies came over. Saturday we had a nice meal for dinner of Swiss steaks, homegrown corn, and mashed potatoes. So yesterday for lunch, I did the cooking so Ms. Kate didn’t have to. Of course I went simple; waffles and sausage patties. I make good waffles but it is only because I use a really good waffles mix; — Krusteaze. I’ve used that for several years now for both my pancakes and waffles. They come out very light and airy.

Church attendance wasn’t too bad yesterday. We had visitors who came to have Mother’s Day with their mom and we had members who were absent, I assume because they went to have Mother’s Day with their moms elsewhere. It’s all good. Jesus said, “Where two or more are gathered, there too am I”. So, we worship with who ever shows up and give thanks and praise for being able to spread the word of God regardless of the number of people who are there to hear it.

I guess today I will concentrate on writing although I have an area in my garage that I want to tackle and maybe clean up some. We extend our “pantry” out into the garage shelves and floor and I’m sure there is stuff there that we have forgotten we had and is maybe even expired. I want to go through that stuff and throw what is expired and make it easier to tell what we have and what we need. Then, I will head to the basement and maybe get started on some writing or at least start gathering sources for my next Pentecost Day service. One would think that after doing this for twenty years, I could just pop something out —- but nope, —- gotta do some research and try to find something fresh.

Okay, that’s it because my favorite patient is along down the sidewalk. Peace.

Saturday, May 13, 2023

Welcome to the week’s end. I hope your Saturday is warm and sunny like ours is. Although I just looked at the Accuweather and the forecast calls for a high of 86 today and some stormy weather. 86 is a bit warmer than normal for us this time of year and nearly always brings storms with it. I guess we will see what happens.

So, we got to sleep in a bit this morning because Kate doesn’t have radiation on Saturday and Sunday. We slept all the way to 0730 today. Actually we could sleep a little later the other days too but I’m the one who thinks we need to be up and ready earlier. My old military habits still drive Kate crazy. In my world, arriving on time means you are already late. She on the other hand neglects to consider the “what-ifs’”. It’s a marriage balancing thing. But after 57 years, we ain’t gonna’ change anything now. LOL

Julie and the pups came down last evening. Jim stayed back so he could spray their yard for bugs. He will come down some time today. Last evening we went to St. Joe Inn for catfish fiddlers, German potato salad and cole slaw. Good stuff right there. We had not been out for fiddlers in a long time. Yesterday morning after Kate’s appointment we tried another new place for breakfast called the Sunrise Family Restaurant and Cafe. The place was clean, the food was good and the service was good. We’ll definitely go back. It is exactly the kind of place that I like to go. I’m a fan of family diner places to eat. Kate, —- not so much. But then, Kate is the queen of drive through. Almost any time I ask her what she wants to eat; her answer is someplace that is rather a drive through or a place like Sonic, which is an old fashioned “drive-in”, meaning that you sit in your car and order your food and eat it in your car. She’s just not in to “going inside of a restaurant to eat. I don’t know why.

I have some yard work to do today, weed eating and stuff like that. I saw some weeds coming up in my asparagus bed again so I need to get after those. And maybe I’ll jump on the two Deere and mow again. The rain did make the grass grow again.

That’s it for a Saturday morning. Tomorrow is the Sabbath for we Christians. Today is the Sabbath for our Jewish brothers and sisters. However, remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Visit your house of worship and give thanks to the Lord for another weeks of blessings. Peace.

Friday, May 12, 2023

A Good Friday morning to you. It is 72 degrees but cloudy and the air feels “moist”. We had some mist in the air earlier and then ran into a short lived rain shower. I think this will be the program for the next couple of days.

We are on day two of Ms. Kate’s radiation regimen. She so far has no complaints about it. The procedure doesn’t take that long. Yesterday we were in and out of the facility in about 30 minutes. Today it was a bit longer because they were a little backed up. I drive her there and just sit in the car and wait for her to come back out while I have my coffee or ready through my Facebook page. I would take a book but OI am a slow reader and 30 minutes doesn’t allow me to get very far. Most people I know could read a couple of chapters in thirty minutes but not me. I might get four or five pages done. That’s why it takes me so long to read a novel.

Last evening I wrote my sermon for the next Sunday (the 21st) and put together a service for Pentecost/Memorial day. I had already started on the Memorial Day service but had to do some tweaks to it.

Julie is coming over today for Mother’s Day weekend. I don’t know if she is bringing the pups and Jim or not. We’ll know when she gets here I reckon. We haven’t seen her for maybe three weeks so we are always happy when she comes over. I just wish the other girls lived closer but they are well established in far away places like North Carolina, California, and Oklahoma. The grandkids live in New Hampshire, North Carolina, and California so popping over for lunch ain’t gonna happen. I envy my friends that do have family living in the same area. However, I probably make contact with and talk to all of mine more often than many of them do. Thank goodness for Facebook Messenger. We all talk daily.

That’s about it for today. I hope your weekend is full of blessings and I hope you remember to share them. Peace.

Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Happy Wednesday morning. It’s a beautiful sunny morning. We got up early because the John Deere dealer was supposed to deliver Bambi (my smaller JD) and they don’t tend to call before they arrive. I was still in bed when they came to pick it up because they had not called ahead of time. Today, the driver forgot to call again until he pulled up front with it. But at least I was up, dressed and having my coffee while I waited on them. But, it is here and running like a new one. As I told the kids, it had a $473.00 bill stuck up it’s tail pipe was all. It is ex-spence-ive to have it worked on. I’ve spent way over the trade-in value of it on repairs, but it’s fixed and that’s all I care. They had to get all of the old grass out of it and replace the carburetor and I also had them put tubes in my rear tires.

We got Ms. Kate in to the dentist and he fixed her with a temporary filling and ordered a crown to go on it. He said the temporary will last her at least until after she finishes her radiation treatment. Since we don’t know when that will be for sure, she set up an appointment for July to put the crown on. The tooth has already had a root canal so there was no pain involved nor did she even have to have her gum numbed.

This morning I will get on Bambi and mow the back yard and then I guess we will go up to the churches and run this weeks bulletins. I went out and did my trimming yesterday evening and I mowed the front yard with my “front yard Deere”. Then I went over and mowed Dan’s backyard just because it was a nice evening and I was enjoying myself. It is supposed to rain on and off for the rest of the week so I wanted to get all of my yard work done early. The rain really made the grass grow so it needed it. A lot of the neighborhood needs mowing. Those that don’t get it done today just might not get it done this week. There will be lions and tigers crawling through the tall grass. LOL

I better get off my rear end and get started on my chores. I hope your day is going well and I hope the rest of your week is full of blessings. Peace.

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Good afternoon, This will be a quick one today, I’m just dropping in to say Hello and I hope your day is going well.

AAs if Ms. Kate didn’t have enough going on in her life, last evening she had an upper tooth break off. One whole side of it is gone. Of course it was past dentist hours and luckily it did not cause her any pain. But that meant that we had to try to get her into the dentist sometime today. So, I got up early and called the dentist office and yes, she can get in today at 1500 hours. The next hurdle though was that she has to take antibiotics 2-3 hours before she has a dental appointment. So I reminded the dentist office folks of that and they said they would call her prescription in as soon as the pharmacy opened; —- which they did.

I got a text from Walgreens at 0900 that her prescription was ready for pick up, so I showered, and went down to get her meds, went by the Donut Bank for some “Tiger tail” donuts, then to the grocery store to get some heavy cream and some Creme brûlée and then home. So, she’s had her antibiotics and we will be leaving for the dentist office in twenty minutes. In the meantime, I’ve been out weed whacking in the back yard and flower bed. It’s still pretty wet out there though from yesterday’s 1.5 inches of rain.

So there youo are —- my life in a couple of paragraphs. I hope your day is fully blessed. Peace.

Monday, May 8, 2023

Good morning! Twenty minutes ago it was bright and sunny as I looked out the windows. Now, the sky is dark, the thunder and lightening are busy and it is pouring down rain. Where ever you live, people say the same thing: —- don’t like the weather, — wait five minutes and it will change. That’s certainly true this morning. I just looked at the radar, and this storm looks to be short lived, depending I guess on wind speed. It was not unexpected. Our weather lady said last night that this is what we can expect for at least the morning hours. It might delay us from going shopping for groceries for a couple of hours though.

I was enjoying a “sleep-in” this morning until a darn Robo-caller rang my phone. I hate robo-callers. This one was from something called “Account Services”. We’ve had their calls before and they are always scam calls. This time I just looked at the identifier and didn’t answer. It aggravate me though. I was not ready to get out of bed. I had an “ungodly” thought about whoever was on the other end of the line.

We had good services yesterday at both churches. It was communion Sunday and attendance was good. It usually is on Communion Sunday. This month we will have two Communion Sundays because the last Sunday of May is Pentecost and we always do communion on special religious days. That will also be our first Summer Combined service and will be Memorial Day weekend. I can’t predict attendance for it. Either it will be larger than normal or it will be slimmer than normal because people will be gone celebrating the holiday weekend. I already know of a few families that have plans to be gone for Memorial Day. It is what it is I reckon.

LOL, the thunder and lightening is done with and my Accuweather App, says the rain will end in eleven minutes. See —- wait five minutes, it will change.

It’s going to be an “indoor day though I guess. I do need to try to get outside and cut the asparagus though.  That won’t take long and can certainly wait until the rain is over. We’ve had a steady crop of asparagus  this spring; not abundant but enough to have it when we want it. I’m hoping that we can gather enough to have some asparagus soup. Ms. Kate make the best soups of anybody I know, especially her cream-soups. One bowl is never enough and depending on what kind, —- four bowls sometimes happens. Yeh, I hear ya’.

That’s my story for today. I pray you will have a blessed week. Peace.

Friday, May 5, 2023

This is more like it! Bright sunshiny day, very little breeze, and 55 degrees this morning. I’m heading outside to water my tomatoes in a few minutes and it will be nice to just enjoy the fresh air. I filled the bird feeders yesterday and then had to order more. I can’t believe how much bird feed has gone up. It is redonkulous. I ordered three different 7 lb bags of birdseed and it was right at a hundred dollars. Black oil sunflower seed has gone from $20.00 a 40 lb bag to over $50.00. I won’t quit feeding my birds but it does take some of the joy out of it especially when the dang squirrels set there constantly until the feeders are empty.

This is the big horse racing weekend over in Louisville. Today is the Oaks race and tomorrow is the Kentucky Derby, aka the most expensive two minutes in sports. I’ve never been to the Derby or the Oaks but I can’t imagine getting in that crowd just to watch a two minute horse race that they will show on television anyway. I assume they have more than one race but don’t really know. We have a local racetrack just inside the Kentucky border and we have gone a couple of times. I’ve made a wild guess bet a couple of times but of course ne’er won anything. So, I really have no interest in it. The last time we went it was because our doctor is part owner of a race horse and it was racing . I think I’m still waiting for it to come in. That was a couple of years ago and I still ask him if his horse is ever going to cross the finish line. LOL

We were up too early today for no particular reason. Kate was up before 0600 and I was up before 0700. Yesterday  we went for Kate’s CT Mapping as I told you. The appointment went fine. But, they use a semi-permanent marker on her to show exactly where to do whatever they do. So, she looks like somebody got to her with a marking pen and drew random marks all over her. And — she not supposed to try to wash it off.  So, I guess she will be wearing her warrior paint for the next month and a half. It doesn’t show of course as long as she is dressed. As I said yesterday, we are just anxious to get started on the treatment.

I reckon that is enough for today. It is cinco de mayo so go have a frozen margarita. Or, leave the booze out and have a slushy!!  Peace.

Thursday, May 4, 2023

Good morning from the parking lot of Ascension/St. Vincent Cancer center. I just walked Ms. Kate in for her CT scan mapping procedure. It is supposed to take about an hour which seems like a very long time to be scanned to me. But, it isn’t a painful procedure I don’t think except for maybe having to lay in certain positions. When they did her breast MRI a few weeks ago, that was her big complaint. First of all, as you know she is a short person, so she haas trouble getting on and off of those tables. Then she had to lay for a long time on her stomach, arms over her head holding on to some kind of bar. She said the whole thing was terribly uncomfortable. So, I hope this morning isn’t the same way. This procedure is designed to map out her breast and the incision site so they can be very precise about doing the radiation. That close to the heart, we don’t want any room for error.

I have this cool tray that I can attach to my steering wheel for times like this when I have a wait involved. I got it off of the internet for less than $5.00 and it works really great. It’s holding my iPad just fine as well as my phone. If I wanted to bring a book — that would work fine too. You can really get scammed or taken buying stuff off of the internet but this was a good one. I bought one for Julie too.

I did a tour around my yard this morning and had to take pictures of our iris. Everything is just really starting to come in except my azaleas. I don’t know what is going on there. A lot of folks have their azaleas  in full bloom but ours are hardly blooming at all.  I do know that as soon as the “season is over, I really need to get out there and trim them back. I can’t see out of the kitchen windows right now. But you have to wait until blooming season is over before you trim them.

When we leave here today I think we will go to Nellies, one of our favorite restaurants for lunch. I’ll of course get breakfast, — I always get breakfast. Then I have to stop and get gas in the thing. Even a Prius runs out of gas eventually. But at 52 mpg, it takes a little longer and doesn’t hold near as much as something like our Caddy did or my truck does. I think our local gas is running about $3.45 a gallon still. Then after we get home today, I need to take our plants out of the sunporch and give them a summer’s worth of fresh air. I will plant the Biltmore Ballgown tree again this summer. I planted it last year and it did really well. Then in the fall, I dug it back up. It has the strangest looking blooms; they look like a ladies ballgown.

That’s it for today. I hope your day is blessed. Peace.

Is it possible that spring has actually arrived? It looks like it, but it still doesn’t feel like it. The days haven’t gotten above 65 degrees for about a week now and the lows are hovering in the low forties still. BUt I guess spring is actually only half over as summer doesn’t actually start for another six weeks. My main weather guy said last night that he think tonight will be our last really cool night and that the temps are going to start warming up. Maybe even have 81 by Sunday; —- which will of course be accompanied by storms.

I spent most of yesterday out in the yard mowing, trimming, blowing off driveway and walks, and watering my garden. It was a great day to be out but I was bushed by last evening. Today I’m working on coordinating a summer Bible Study on Job with one of my parishioners. She is a wonderful teacher and loves to do Bible studies. She was teaching about Job last Sunday and the class was excited about it.

Okay, I have to go, I had something else come up and need to get on thee road. Have a blessed day. Peace.

May Day! May Day! May Day!  Okay, not really, I don’t need any help. Well —- I probably do but we won’t go there. LOL

It’s a cool 46 degrees again this morning and the sun can’t seem to decide whether it wants to come out or hide behind the clouds. It has been a weird couple of days but I’m glad that we had some rain. I put 13 tomato plants in the ground Saturday and I appreciate God watering them for me. The weather forecaster said that we aren’t looking for any more rain this week so at some point I’ll need to start watering my “maters”. That’s alright  because I’ll add a little Miracle Gro to the water. I need to get a couple more cages from Lowes or Home Depot. And I think maybe another bag of potting mix or garden dirt. I want to plant at least one cherry or plum tomato plant for salad use. I’ll do that in a large pot.

Do you ever have those night or times when you are getting hungry but have no idea what you want to eat? Yeh, Ms. Kate and I were at that point yesterday afternoon. We left church yesterday and the sky was looking bad so we decided not to go to a restaurant for lunch like we usually do.  We just stopped at McDonalds on the way home and picked up lunch and came home and ate it. By late afternoon the hurries were rumbling and wanting attention. But noting really sounded good. We had leftovers in the refrigerator and we have enough food in the pantries to feed an army, but nothing sound enticing. So, we were left with the choice of; do we go to Lic’s Ice Cream and have a banana split, —- or do we go to Cold Stone for our ice cream. Well, it started to pour down rain and the wind was blowing at about 25-30 mph so we chucked those ideas and Ms. Kate made a chocolate and cherry dump cake; and for our main meal before dessert, we had a selection of cheese and crackers. I love being an adult, especially and old one when you just do what you want to do and to heck with public opinion.

We had good attendance at both churches yesterday. This coming Sunday will be communion Sunday and I hope folks come out. There is no such thing as a full church these days it seems, at least in the churches around here. I was talking to a member of one of the older churches in town that has always had large crowds and has done big mission work in the community. They are down to about 35 people these days on a Sunday. What a shame. Our congregation has maintained a steady attendance over the twenty years I have been there but “family churches” generally do that especially in rural farming communities.

I have stuff to do and I need to get on with it. I pray your day will be fully blessed. Peace.
