My birthday was yesterday. I turned 79; —- one more year until the big “8 0”. I remember when I thought 79 was really old and yet it seems that maybe I was mistaken. I don’t “feel” old. In fact, I think I’m in pretty darn good condition health-wise. I take a total of four pills daily, one for cholesterol, one for blood pressure, a 5 mg arthritis pill, and one for my heartburn. I also use two inhalers for my asthma once a day. But that’s it. Bless Ms. Kate’s heart, she takes maybe 17 pills a day spread out over the entire day. So, I consider myself extremely blessed and fortunate. Being an adopted kid, I’ll never know my family/genetic health history but so far —- it seems to be not filled with any anomalies. Oh, I don’t move very fast at all any more, and bending over pretty much sucks; but I can do a good days work as along as we take it slow. So, I’m knocking on my wooden table and hoping things continue in this way for a few more years. I have found though that as I age I do tend to think about my mortality a lot more. I figure, I maybe have another decade left on this planet. I mean, if I make it to 90, —- what’s the big advantage of living beyond that??
The wonderful part about yesterday was the amount of “love” I received throughout the day. My Facebook page was absolutely filled with birthday greetings and warm wishes. People that I haven’t seen in decades still stay in contact with me through Facebook. So many people that for whom I served a commanding officer stay in contact with me; I feel honored to be remembered that well.
Ms. Kate and I had a busy day yesterday. We started the day off by taking her for a MRI out at Gateway Radiation Center. From there we went on up to Lakeview orchards and picked up 15 lbs of fresh peaches. From there, we went to the butcher shop and picked up some chicken for me to put on the grill, then to the optometrist shop because the lens fell out of my glasses. Then we came home fixed a lite lunch and took a short nap. The we got busy and made two peach pies. I’ll take pie over cake any day for celebrating a birthday. That was our supper last night. I was supposed to grill the chicken but we decided that pie was sufficient and the chicken could wait a day.
Julie is coming over today from Louisville just to bring my birthday present. She’s doing a turn-around trip. Bless her heart. I’m going to be spending the day writing.
That catches you up on life around here. It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend. I need to jump on the John Deere’s and mow but I think I will hold that until tomorrow. I don’t want to use up all of my fun in one place and at one time. In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful day. Peace.
